Facts about Imotski

Imotski is an old town, situated in southern Croatia, at the crossroads of the Dalmatian hinterland and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Imotski has all the characteristics of the coastal city thanks to its climate and urban architecture of the old town. Stone houses, steep narrow streets lined with stone steps are witnesses of former looks of this place whose old core today is protected area.

The main feature of Imotski is fortress Topana, built in the 10th century, and under Topan is the Blue Lake, the favorite promenade of the inhabitants and towns guests which during the summer months become the main bathing place in Imotski. To the lake leads stone stairs that were built in 1907. In the immediate vicinity of the Blue Lake (1.5 km) there is the Red Lake, the deepest karst lake in Europe with a depth of depression 528 meters and the water depth reaches more than 300 meters to the bottom which is below sea level.

Imotski is also interesting because of its location and traffic connections, which makes it an ideal base for a vacation. Imotski is an one hour drive away from Medjugorje and Mostar in neighboring Bosnia and Herzegovina, one hour drive from the ancient center of town Split, and thanks to the tunnel Sv. Elijah, just half an hour from Makarska, sanctuary Vepric and other places of the Makarska Riviera.
